From Land to Keys: Quail’s Build On Your Lot Program Explained

Building a custom home on your own land can feel overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to be. In this video, Jon Girod, owner of Quail Custom Homes, walks through our Build On Your Lot (BOYL) process from start to finish.
We cover every step of the journey, including land selection and evaluation, budgeting and feasibility, site preparation, permitting, and the full custom home build. Our BOYL program is designed to guide clients through each phase with clarity, transparency, and confidence.
Roughly one-third of our projects are custom homes built on client-owned land, giving us the experience and systems needed to turn a raw lot into a thoughtfully built, long-lasting home.

Custom Home Financing Explained | Construction Loans & Monthly Draws

Financing a custom home build doesn’t have to be complicated. In this video, Jon Girod, owner of Quail Custom Homes, breaks down the most common ways to finance a custom home and explains how construction loan draws work once your build is underway.

SELECTIONS PROCESS

Design your dream home from the ground up with our personalized process. Our interior designer will guide you through a tailored design experience, starting with a personalized style collage and continuing with a series of focused design meetings. Once your selections and budget are finalized, we’ll prepare a detailed work package and hand it to our expert construction team to bring your vision to life.

PRE-CONSTRUCTION MEETING

The pre-construction meeting is held with the projects Site Supervisor and the clients at our office. The purpose of this meeting is to review redlined plans, permitted documents, work package, expectations, job site etiquette, and answer any questions prior to the start of construction.

Framing Walkthrough

Before anything is ordered or installed, we take every homeowner through a detailed framing walkthrough. In this video, our Site Supervisor, Cindy Orth, walks you through exactly what happens during this meeting and why it matters.

Electrical Walkthrough

Get ready for the electrical walkthrough! In this video, our Site Superintendent walks you through exactly what to expect and how to make the most of this part of your build.

Millwork Walkthrough

Before any trim, doors, or interior details are installed, we take each homeowner through a thorough millwork walkthrough to ensure every choice and placement is exactly right. In this video, our Site Supervisor walks you through what to expect during your millwork review — a key step that helps ensure your home’s finish details match your design vision and lifestyle.

Concrete Walkthrough

During the concrete walkthrough, you’ll meet with our site supervisor and concrete trade partner to review and confirm the layout before the concrete is poured.

Hard Surface Walkthrough

During the hard surface walkthrough, you’ll meet with our partner at Cascade Flooring America on site to review and confirm your selected materials and installation scope before work begins.

Landscaping Walkthrough

Before any plants, hardscapes, or irrigation systems are installed, we take each homeowner through a detailed landscaping walkthrough to ensure the final outdoor space is both functional and beautiful, and aligned with their lifestyle. In this video, we walk you through what happens during the landscaping review.

NEW HOME ORIENTATION

Quail will familiarize you with your new home, how the equipment operates, and the details of your warranty. If necessary, you will develop a punch list for Quail to complete prior to moving in or soon thereafter.

Our Warranty Manager, Robin Maahs, provides a detailed overview of our punch list and warranty processes.
