I gave sharpened yellow #2 pencils with pads of paper to our employees as a gift at our last meeting of the year.
We all operate in this digital world where we communicate in rapid speed. So, we think!!
I get the privilege to be a fixer when communication breaks down.
I have a simple method developed over the years. I take out my #2 yellow pencil with paper and figure out what broke down and why. I talk with all parties involved, take notes with my #2 and then come up with a resolution. It takes time, patience and focus.
The #2 Yellow Pencil gift is an effort by me to reduce my time as a fixer.
We have experienced the negative effects on real communication with our digital tools. We have trusted the digital tools and thrown out the trusted #2 that we all used in our schooling. I am in the belief that we need to use both old school and new school techniques in producing quality communication.
Over the last 8 months we have overhauled our systems for communication. The Yellow #2 Pencil is the exclamation point!
We will be focusing on improving our face to face meetings, taking great notes and follow up techniques that provide clarity to all parties. I can’t wait.
I will be looking for pencils that get shorter and erasers used!!
Looking forward to a great 2020.
